Shukova: Working on capacity building for successful EU negotiation process

Skopje, 10 March 2023 (MIA) - Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Kaja Shukova and Swedish Ambassador to North Macedonia Ami Larsson Jain awarded on Friday certificates to the first group of attendants to the course on Union accession in the area of environment at the EU Environment Academy. 

 

According to the Environment Ministry, the course, which was also attended by representatives from Serbia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Albania and Montenegro, was divided into three modules designed to cover the entire EU acquis, in particlar Chapter 27 - Environment and Climate Change. The first group of course attendants from the country mainly included representatives of the state administration. 

Minister Shukova pointed out that investing in administrative capacities, through the EU Environment Academy, represents significant support in the negotiation process in the area of ​​environment, because the creation of well-trained staff in the institutions and their inclusion in the future negotiation process will give results.

 

"In addition, it has to be stressed that the participation in the Academy by representatives from different countries in the region will enable connection and exchange of experience at a regional level in the future and will contribute to increasing cooperation in the area of ​​environment in the negotiation process," said Shukova. 

The second EU Environment Academy will take place between April and December 2023, whereat representatives from the NGO sector will be able to apply. 

 

The event was organized by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the European Institute of Public Administration.
