Skopje, 25 September 2023 (MIA) - Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, decarbonisation, will be regulated by law, and the economy is ready to implement it, Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Kaja Shukova said at Monday's conference themed "Sustainable Energy Skills in Construction" within the SEEtheSkills project, hosted by the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia.
Minister Shukova noted that the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans is a serious tool the country should strive towards, as some of its principles point to the importance of decarbonisation for Europe.
"As part of Europe geographically, and as part of the EU administratively in the future, we need to reduce the amount of waste we finally deposit," said Shukova.
According to the Environment Minister, for decarbonisation, the country will need legislation in the area of climate action, which she hopes will be soon passed and will soon be submitted to the Parliament. Also, Shukova added, the private sector has shown with today's statements that it is ready for climate action, and ready for the law, i.e. law on emissions trading.
She expressed hope that the country, the scientific sector and the economy will further continue to implement the green agenda.
