Skopje, 22 May 2024 (MIA) - The enlargement of the European Union will be an important element of Denmark’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2025. Copenhagen will aid North Macedonia on the path of Euro-integrations, Danish Ambassador Susanne Shine said in her address Wednesday at an event marking 30 years since the establishment of the Royal Danish Consulate General in Skopje.

“The bonds between North Macedonia and Denmark are built on shared values, mutual interests and a joint view of global events. A key aspect of our work when strengthening these bonds is also helping the country progress on its path to the EU. We will of course continue this task with the new Government. In this context, I would like to note that Denmark will take over the EU Presidency in 2025, and enlargement will be an important element of our Presidency,” Ambassador Shine said. 

The Ambassador stressed that the Danish Consulate General in Skopje began its work in July 1994, upon a decree issued by Danish Queen Margrethe II, who appoined Trajche Mukaetov as Honorary Consul General. In 2007, his son, Zhivko Mukaetov, took over the post of Honorary Consul General. 

At the event, the Danish Ambassador also presented Zhivko Mukaetov with the rank of Knight 1st Class of the Order of the Danish Flag.

“This great honor was one of the last conferred by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II before she abdicated the throne and was succeeded by her son, His Majesty King Frederik X,” Ambassador Shine stressed.

Honorary Consul General Mukaetov thanked his team at the Consulate and his family for their selfless support of his work.

“Here at the Consulate we will continue our work in the best possible way, and as always, we will try to offer the best possible service to the Kingdom of Denmark,” Mukaetov said. 

As of June 2023, Mukaetov is also serving as Consul of the Kingdom of Norway.
