Shekerinska: PM-designate to decide on future defence minister
Skopje, 4 January 2022 (MIA) - The decision is up to the PM-designate to whom candidate he will give support to be the next Minister of Defence, Defence Minister Radmila Shekerinska told reporters on Tuesday adding that according to her information it has not been decided yet.
According to her, there is a red line that should not be crossed, and that is to suggest who would be the next candidate who could assume this post.
“This is the task of the PM-designate. I expressed my opinion that this is a really sensitive sector, a sector in which not only domestic rules of responsibility apply, but also NATO rules of responsibility,” Shekerinska said responding to reporter’s question if there is a profile of a person who should take over this position, whether she had consultations and asked the party for her opinion on who should be appointed on this ministerial post.
The new minister, she said, succeeds a system that is complex, but a system that already has achieved results.
Shekerinska noted that in defence represents the image of whether you are a country that can be trusted, a country that stands by what has been said, whether you are partners or allies whose word is worthwhile.
“There is no dilemma here and it is clear to the PM-designate that such a candidate will be needed, such a minister, who will not only know the field, but will be ready from the first day to deliver the obligations we have as a NATO member and to our citizens,” Shekerinska said after overseeing the construction of the building of the Military Sector for Security and Intelligence, located within Skopje-based “Goce Delchev” barracks.
