Seventh patient dies after West Nile fever infection

Skopje, 3 September 2026 (MIA) - A 69-year-old man from Skopje's Gazi Baba municipality is the seventh patient to die of West Nile fever in the country, said Health Minister Sasho Klekovski at a press conference Thursday.
“The patient had the longest hospitalization and spent over 38 days in the hospital,” said Klekovski.
Klekovski said a new suspected case has been reported since he last informed the public about the epidemic, while the situation with hospitalizations remains unchanged and currently 19 patients are receiving treatment.
“Since the weekend, all new reported cases have been from the northern part of Skopje. And talks have been held with the relevant mayors to pay attention to activities in the area,” the Health Minister said.
