Seven wildfires still active out of 29 reported in past 24 hours

Skopje, 22 July 2024 (MIA) – A total of 29 wildfires, including seven that are still active, were registered in the past 24 hours, the Crisis Management Center (CMC) said Monday.

A wildfire between the two villages in the municipality of Shtip is still burning as well as a bushfire near the Krivolak army training ground.

A pine forest in the municipality of Makedonski Brod has been caught by a wildfire. 15 members of the Jasen National Park staff and some 30 servicemen have been battling the blazes to prevent them from spreading into a protected region. A Mi-17 army helicopter yesterday was prevented from putting out the fires due to a thick rising column of smoke.

Bushfires are also active in the municipalities of Chashka and Dolneni, said CMC.

According to the Center, seven wildfires have been contained and 15 have been put out.
