Serbia imported nearly 24 tons of apples from North Macedonia in 2022

Belgrade, 30 October 2023 (MIA) — The apples on Serbia's market in 2022 were mostly imported from North Macedonia, according to data released by the Association of Crop Farming and Food Industry of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, MIA's Belgrade correspondent reports.

 

Serbia also imported Macedonian tomatoes, onions, cabbage, peppers and watermelons, according to the data. 

 

In 2022, the country imported 305.990,5 tons of fruit. Of the 26.126 tons of apples imported to Serbia, totalling EUR 3.7 million, 23.837,8 tons of apples, totalling EUR 3.1 million, were imported from North Macedonia.

 

During 2022, 169.752,1 tons of vegetables worth EUR 155.1 million were imported. Tomatoes had the highest value of imports in the amount of around EUR 21 million or 14 percent from the total value of imports for 2022.

 

Tomatoes on the Serbian market were mostly imported from North Macedonia and Albania; onions from the Netherlands and North Macedonia; potatoes from the Netherlands and France; beans from Kyrgyzstan; and garlic from China.

 

Cabbage and peppers were also imported from North Macedonia; cucumbers from Albania; and frozen beans, spinach and frozen vegetables were imported in smaller amounts.

 

Serbia imported its watermelons mostly from Greece and significantly less from North Macedonia and Albania. ssh/mr
