Self-guided tour of Skopje’s hidden museums promoted
Skopje, 2 October 2021 (MIA) – “Sustainable Initiatives”, an association of citizens, is promoting Saturday a self-guided, bicycle tour dubbed “Skopje’s Hidden Museums”, which includes pre-recorded manuals leading up to key landmarks in Skopje and its surroundings. The event is part of the Skopje Hidden Museums project, implemented by the Sustainable Initiatives civil association in cooperation with the Museum of the City of Skopje with financial support provided by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Skopje. “Skopje has museums and landmarks the public is not even noticing. What’s more interesting, many people have heard about them, but have never had the chance to visit them or don’t know where they are located, for example the Roman Aqueduct,” says Meri Bakalova of the initiative. On Saturday, two routes will be promoted including a 5-km route through Skopje’s downtown and a 35-km route outside the capital. Both routes include less known museums and landmarks. Visitors will have the chance to visit the museum of illegal workers who manufactured weapons during WWII, Lazar Lichenovski’s house, the museum of the Macedonian National Theater, the museum of the old bazaar, the memorial museum of the war and revolution for liberation, the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Roman Aqueduct, Dendro Park and Botanical Garden. The manuals, in Macedonian and English, will be available after the promotion. By using them, visitors have the chance to visit the museums and landmarks when they please, which reduces the chance for overcrowding. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, pre-registration is required via email or by phone. The event is organized in line with anti-coronavirus measures and protocols.
