Sela: North Macedonia to continue on European integration path, no other option
Skopje, 4 July 2022 (MIA) – I believe that North Macedonia should continue down the European integration path and no other option should exist for the country. There should be no doubt and I think that AA is explicit in this aspect, said Alliance for Albanians leader Zijadin Sela after meeting Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Monday, remarking that they would come out with their official position after they go over the French proposal. Sela said that even before the finalization of this proposal, the Alliance for Albanians had a position on the dispute with Bulgaria. “Our position is clear, the dispute must be solved by beginning with the basics, if there are issues between neighbours, the neighbours must begin by recognising each other. On another point, before the EU Summit, as party president, I said it is not only whether we accept the French proposal or not, but also whether we continue down the path towards European integration or not, and I think this should be the politicians’ approach,” said Sela. The AA’s attitude towards “Open Balkan” is in accordance with this, said Sela, namely that we should not create EU alternatives and the only path for North Macedonia should be EU membership. “The only path should be the EU, as soon as possible. Naturally, this path involves negotiations, agreements which must be reached with EU countries. There is no doubt and I think that the AA is explicit in these points,” said Sela. North Macedonia’s EU membership, according to Sela, is of geopolitical importance and the politicians should think more about the stability of the region, and less about winning political points. “There are no doubts, as a political party we would accept such a proposal and that’s the AA’s opinion,” said Sela. ad/ik/
