SEC’s Dashtevski: Legal solutions sought to allow people to vote with expired IDs
Skopje, 19 August 2021 (MIA) – The State Election Commission (SEC) will do everything in its power in seeking legal solutions allowing people with expired IDs, who cannot be issued new ones because a legislation is blocked in Parliament, to cast their vote in the October local elections. Voters holding valid passports can vote, but despite this fact, additional activities are conducted to find other legal solutions, SEC President Aleksandar Dashtevski said Thursday. Speaking after today’s Commission session, Dashtevski said that five percent of the fingerprint scanner devices are expected to arrive on August 25, while the rest will be arriving successively by October 1. The whole equipment should be delivered by then. Under the contract signed with “Dermalog”, the company should also provide a manual for the devices to be used at training of presidents and deputy presidents of electoral boards. The devices will not be connected online on election day. All data collected on election day will be erased afterwards. Photo from MIA's archive
