SEC: Voting of infirm, inmates, persons in retirement homes, internally displaced persons ends, diaspora voting ongoing

Skopje, 23 April 2024 (MIA) - All 14 polling stations in penitentiary institutions, where 2,147 voters were eligible to exercise their voting rights today, are closed, with a turnout of 64 percent, the State Election Commission (SEC) said Tuesday evening.

"The voting there proceeded without problems, and by 7 p.m., according to information from the election boards, 1,380 voters, or 64 percent of those registered, had cast their votes," the SEC said.

Throughout the day, only two voters registered as internally displaced persons were able to exercise their voting rights at the sole center for internally displaced persons. The polling station at the center for displaced persons is now closed.

A total of 534 voters accommodated in 20 out-of-family care centers had the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. Out of a total of 250 voters from seven centers, 208 voters cast their votes, representing 83 percent turnout.

6,935 citizens registered as infirm exercised their right to vote from their homes. According to information from municipal election commissions, 6,543, or 94 percent, of infirm people have voted so far.

The SEC reports that at 31 polling stations in diplomatic and consular missions abroad, 2,569 registered voters had the opportunity to vote, with their registrations accepted by the State Election Commission. Six polling stations remain open, with voting scheduled until 7 p.m., according to the time zone of the respective country.

"By 7 p.m., according to information received from the electoral boards, the total voter turnout in the diaspora is 891 voters, or 35 percent. It's worth noting that this turnout does not include six polling stations where voting is still ongoing due to the time zone difference," the SEC noted.

A total of 1,814,317 voters are registered in the Electoral Roll for the 2024 presidential elections.

So far, the SEC has accredited 915 domestic, 628 foreign and international observers, and 38 foreign journalists. For timely and accurate election-related updates, all citizens have access to the SEC website www.sec.mk , as well as the social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and the YouTube channel.
