SEC publishes preliminary unofficial results of repeat mayoral elections

Skopje, 11 January 2026 (MIA) – The State Election Commission has published the preliminary unofficial results of Sunday’s repeat mayoral elections held in the municipalities of Vrapchishte, Gostivar, Mavrovo Rostushe, and Centar Zhupa. Based on the results, candidates from the DUI-led National Alliance for Integration (NAI) are ahead in two municipalities, while VMRO-DPMNE and the Democratic Party of the Turks of Macedonia each lead in one municipality.

With 97.44 percent of votes processed in the Municipality of Vrapchishte, the SEC said a total of 8.622 citizens cast their ballots (32.37%). The candidate of the DUI-led National Alliance for Integration (NAI) Isen Shabani received 5.355 votes, while independent candidate Zulhajrat Demiri received 3.028 votes.

In Gostivar, 23.637 citizens turned out to vote (30.34%), with NAI’s Valbon Limani winning 14.519 votes, while Vlen’s candidate Nevzat Bejta won 7.174 votes. 

In Mavrovo Rostushe 2.918 citizens turned out to vote (28.51%), based on 87.18 percent of votes processed, the candidate of VMRO-DPMNE’s coalition, Oner Jakupovski won 1.906 votes, while SDSM’s Anes Ahmeti won 938.

With 100 percent of votes processed, a total of 1.003 citizens turned out to vote (13.26%) in Centar Zhupa, where the sole candidate from the Democratic Party of the Turks of Macedonia, Arijan Ibraim, won 973 votes.

The Commission will publish the preliminary official results on Monday.
