SEC: Centar Zhupa and Mavrovo-Rostushe get new mayors; BESA wins most seats in Tetovo municipal council
Skopje, 21 August 2022 (MIA) - The State Election Commission (SEC) late on Saturday released initial results from the mayoral elections in the municipalities of Centar Zhupa and Mavrovo-Rostushe and the municipal elections for members of the Tetovo municipal council. According to the results, 3,340 out of a total of 3,395 voters elected DPTM's Arijan Ibraim for mayor of Centar Zhupa, who was the sole candidate for the post in the elections. Voter turnout was 47.46%, said State Election Commission President Aleksandar Dashtevski. In Mavrovo-Rostushe, SDSM candidate Medat Kurtovski won 3,266 votes opposite Mevmed Xhaferi from VMRO-DPMNE, who won 1,935 votes. Voter turnout was 54.24%. According to initial results, BESA won the most seats in the Council of the Municipality of Tetovo - a total of 12 seats with 9,620 votes. DUI follows with 11 seats, 8,702 votes; VMRO-DPMNE with 4 seats, 3,332 votes; and SDSM with two seats, 1,953 votes. Alternativa and DPA won one seat each in the Council of the Municipality of Tetovo with 1,118 and 1,058 votes respectively. Voter turnout in the Tetovo municipal elections was 35.31%. The State Election Commission should release the official results by Tuesday. At a news conference late on Saturday, Dashtevski said election day in the three municipalities was peaceful with no reported incidents and the municipal elections will be successful. SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski was in Centar Zhupa on Saturday to celebrate the re-election of Arijan Ibraim, proposed by TDP and supported by SDSM. "The citizens once again have proven where they want the country to go and that they know what is good for the country. Centar Zhupa will continue to develop with Arijan Ibraim at the helm," he said. The SDSM leader also congratulated Medat Kurtovski on his re-election as mayor of the Municipality of Mavrovo-Rostushe. "I want to thank all the citizens who exercised their right to vote today contributing to the election day to be held in democratic atmosphere," he stated. In Tetovo, incumbent Tetovo Mayor Bilal Kasami, who is also the leader of BESA, celebrated his party's win after securing most seats in the Council of the Municipality of Tetovo. "The citizens of Tetovo deserve my unreserved commitment until the end of the term," he stated late on Saturday demanding early elections after as he said, his party had defeated DUI twice in a short period of time.
