Searches carried out in Ohrid due to photographing of ballots and Electoral Roll

Ohrid, 7 May 2024 (MIA) – Officers from the Ohrid police carried out searches on Monday in the home and auxiliary premises of two individuals from Ohrid suspected of abusing personal data and violating the Electoral Code, the police said in a press release on Tuesday.

According to the Ohrid police, following previously obtained operational information regarding the photographing of the Electoral Roll and ballot papers in the first round of the presidential elections held on April 24, a search warrant was issued for the home and auxiliary premises of M.M. (51) and T.C.T. (44), both from Ohrid and members of an election board who were proposed by a political party.  

During the search the police said it found two phones with photographs of the Electoral Roll containing the personal information of voters, photographs from ballot papers with a circled ordinal number which were sent by voters as proof they voted for a certain candidate and were then shared in a group created on a communication app.

The police said it questioned the two individuals and also summoned other individuals for questioning on Tuesday in order to secure additional evidence for the crimes of abuse of personal data and violations of the Electoral Code.
