SDSM submits Declaration for Ilinden, calls on MPs support

Skopje, 28 July (2023) - SDSM has submitted to Parliament a Declaration for Ilinden - the biggest Macedonian national holiday. We expect this Declaration to be presented before MPs, and we expect each one of them, not matter the political party they belong to, to support it and have it be adopted by Parliament, SDSM MP Darko Kaevski announced on Friday.

"This year marks 120 years since the Ilinden Uprising and the formation of the Krushevo Republic. The ideals of the Republic and Uprising were an inspiration to future generations of freedom fighters, who in 1944 formed the first Macedonian state at the First Session of the Anti-fascist Assembly for the National Liberation of Macedonia (ASNOM). These events are of great significance to Macedonian history and the fight of the Macedonian people for freedom and their country," Kaevski said.

According to him, the ideas of the people of Ilinden, Macedonian partisans and everyone else fighting for a free and democratic Macedonia, for equality and coexistence of its citizens, no matter their religious, ethnic or ideological affiliation, should serve as a guide to present and future generations for a free, democratic and prosperous North Macedonia.

"The Macedonian people, together with everyone else living here today, will continue the fight for democracy and prosperity, guided by the principles of the Krushevo Republic and ASNOM's Declaration on the fundamental rights of the citizens of Federal Macedonia, which have been translated into the preamble of North Macedonia's Constitution," Kaevski stated.

Paying respect to the sacrifice of the fighters for freedom and democracy, it is our duty, he stressed, to continuously express our admiration and respects to all those who gave their lives for freedom, thereby sending a strong message of unity, equality and democracy.

"All of this is included into the Declaration that we submitted to the Parliament today," adds Kaevski. ssh/sk/
