SDSM says officials from MoI, Chair Municipality transported Ramadani to Kosovo, urges investigation

Skopje, 23 August 2024 (MIA) - SDSM MP Mitko Trajchuleski said Thursday the party has evidence from “whistleblowers” that the escape of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) Blerim Ramadani from house arrest was aided by the police and urged the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office to launch an investigation.

At a press conference, the SDSM MP alleged that Ramadani left the country and traveled to Kosovo on August 10 with Naim Ramuka, the police chief of the northern border with Kosovo, while on August 14, when he escaped from the country, he was transported by a senior employee of the Municipality of Chair, upon Ramuka’s orders. In both cases, Trajchuleski said, they crossed the border using the lane for freight vehicles without any controls.

Trajchuleski called for the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office to launch an urgent investigation into the case; for the recordings from the cameras at the border crossing to be declassified; and for Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski, as well as everyone else involved in the organization of the escape, to resign.

He said the Interior Ministry is responsible for the “world-class scandal” in which “a criminal sought with an international warrant can cross the border whenever he wants and however he wants”, and that Naim Ramuka “has privatized the border for his own political needs with Toshkovski’s approval”.

“SDSM asks that the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office immediately launch a procedure for the organized freeing of a detainee by employees of the Interior Ministry and the Municipality of Chair. It should investigate who was involved in the freeing of Ramadani and launch procedures against everyone. If the Prosecutor’s Office doesn’t do this, we will conclude that they are protecting the Interior Ministry and Toshkovski, as well as everyone else involved in this case. We call for Toshkovski to immediately resign, but before that he should dismiss everyone he appointed to the border with Kosovo starting with Naim Ramuka who is behaving like a sheriff on the border,” Trajchuleski said.
