SDSM requests leadership meeting

Skopje, 30 November 2024 (MIA) — SDSM Vice President Metodija Ilievski at a press conference Saturday requested a leadership meeting of parliamentary political parties be urgently held.

"As a party that has always put the interests of citizens and the stability of the state first, the SDMS proposes the immediate holding of a meeting of all parliamentary political party leaders. This is our duty to citizens – our duty to show we are ready to deal with all challenges together and keep our country stable and peaceful," Ilievski told the press conference.

SDSM, he said, firmly believed that dialogue, understanding and working together were the only way forward. "Citizens expect us politicians to be an example of calm, wisdom and committment to the common good," he said.

In light of recent events, the party urged the public to remain calm and recalled that respecting diversity and dialogue were the foundations of the Macedonian society.

"These times demand responsibility and we are ready to show it. This is not a time for divisions. Together we are stronger and only this way can we deal with every challenge standing in our way," Ilievski said.

In response to a reporter's question, Ilievski said the government's goal in judicial reforms was to establish a judiciary that would serve the party interests of this government only. He urged the international community and all democratic institutions not to allow "Mickoski's authoritarian appetites to destroy what has been built over the years."

"Democracy, the rule of law and the independence of institutions cannot fall prey to anyone's personal or party ambitions, Ilievski said. mr/
