SDSM not supporting Safe City legislative changes

SDSM not supporting Safe City legislative changes

Skopje, 21 January 2026 (MIA) - SDSM leader Venko Filipche said Wednesday the party would not support the amendments to the Law on Misdemeanors related to the Safe City system because of the lack of provisions regarding the database safeguards.

"We will not support these amendments. We are not against traffic safety and the fact that we launched the Safe City process is a proof of this. However, we cannot allow for its partial implementation. Besides traffic safety, we also want to see data security, something that the authorities are neither discussing nor trying to regulate," Filipche told a press conference.

He added that SDSM is a constructive opposition but not a controlled one, noting "we will not support a law in which serious aspects are not regulated, namely the big database for which there are no safeguards in place".

Regarding the party candidates for the State Election Commission, the SDSM leader said they have nominated Bojan Marichikj for president and outgoing SEC president Boris Kondarko for member.

"They are professionals, lawyers, experienced people who will do their job well," said Filipche.
