SDSM not supporting DUI interpellations, against retirement age increase

Skopje, 4 December 2024 (MIA) - SDSM will not support DUI's interpellations against Government ministers because they are not a solution for the current crisis, concluded the party's new Executive Board at its first session late on Wednesday.

These interpellations could lead to fresh divisions along ethnic lines. A different approach was needed, party leaders need to sit down and send messages that calm down tensions, but the ruling authorities have refused this approach, SDSM said in a press release.

The DUI-led European Front has submitted interpellation motions against Deputy PMs Izet Mexhiti and Ivan Stoiljkovikj, Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski and his deputy Astrit Iseni.

The opposition party is also opposing any proposal for increase of the retirement age to 67, claiming such move is a blow to the workers' dignity and service.

This represents a continuation of the flawed policies of systematic devaluation and exploitation of the workers' labor by the (VMRO) DPMNE-led government. Instead of increasing wages and creating better conditions for workers, the authorities want to slip through measures that will force workers to work longer only to finance the costs resulting from their populist moves, notes SDSM.

It adds that such measure would further discourage employment of youth, and lead to their increased emigration.

On party activities, SDSM says it will launch intensive activities in all municipal offices as of Thursday, bringing members' voices back in the decision-making process.
