Skopje, 27 February 2024 (MIA) – Lawmakers from ruling SDSM and its coalition partners have submitted to Parliament amendments to six laws with which, they said, they would prevent an increase of the wages of officials. SDSM MP Martin Kostovski said at a press conference Tuesday that the amendments would cover around 1.060 appointed and elected officials.
All amendments have been submitted under a fast-track procedure.
“Since the Constitutional Court scrapped the fixed base, this is the only constitutional solution. These legal amendments cover around 1.060 officials – MPs, ministers, mayors, directors, judges, prosecutors – all elected or appointed officials. Their wages will not be increased,” said Kostovski.
Kostovski added that the coefficients of the wages of elected and appointed officials would remain on the current level.
“This is being done to avoid a drastic increase of the wages of officials, because a few days ago, the State Statistical Office came out with an assessment regarding the average wage in the country, and this would mean an enormous increase of around 15.3 percent. As responsible politicians from SDSM, we will not allow this,” said Kostovski.
The MPs representing SDSM and its coalition partners said they expect to receive the support of all lawmakers in the Parliament.
