SARS-CoV-2 pandemic: 37 deaths added this week to Covid-19 death toll

Skopje, 3 April 2023 (MIA) — Of the total of 1,365 PCR and rapid antigen tests done March 27–April 2 for SARS-CoV-2 in laboratories nationwide, 155 came back positive for the airborne virus. Of them, 51 were reinfections, the Institute of Public Health said in its latest weekly report on the pandemic. 

 

The country's official number of deaths from Covid-19 has climbed to 9,728 from last week’s 9,691, with public health authorities adding 37 deaths to the coronavirus death toll in the meantime. Three of those 37 people died in hospital, according to the report.

 

The 155 newly reported SARS-CoV-2 cases were recorded in 15 cities nationwide, with Skopje logging the most infections: 91.

 

Officially, 210 people infected with SARS-CoV-2 are considered to be active cases, and 174 people were declared ‘recovered’ from their acute symptoms last week.

 

Currently hospitalized for SARS-CoV-2 are 25 people. Of them, four are on oxygen support and no one is on life-support mechanical ventilation.

 

Since the start of the pandemic, the report says, the country’s laboratories have done a total of 2,236,222 coronavirus tests, of which 66% PCR tests and 34% rapid antigen tests.

 

So far, public health officials have logged 347,826 infections with SARS-CoV-2, declared 337,888 'recoveries,' and reported 21,920 reinfections with the airborne virus.

 

Out of the 9,728 deaths from SARS-CoV-2 reported by the Institute of Public Health, 90.8% happened in hospital. mr/
