Skopje, 18 July 2022 (MIA) — After the Investigative Reporting Lab’s “Bad Blood” documentary alleged fatal medical malpractice at Skopje’s Zhan Mitrev Clinic, the hospital is facing an inspection by the State Health and Sanitary Inspectorate in addition to the probe the national Agency for Medicines and Medical Equipment has opened into the hospital’s clinical trial practices, Health Minister Bekim Sali told a news conference Monday. According to Minister Sali, initial findings indicated that the hospital did not follow legal regulations in conducting a blood filtration clinical trial, but he said more details would be known after hospital representatives give their statements Tuesday. Should state inspectors find evidence of “systemic inconsistencies,” Sali said, “I responsibly claim that I will correct all those within my competence as a minister as soon as possible.” “The Ministry of Health and I as a minister have to get all the information so we can see the entire picture and provide the public with only valid and relevant information. And more importantly, patients' families deserve to have transparent comprehensive information,” Sally said.
