Sali: All reform agenda steps to be completed by June

Skopje, 6 March 2026 (MIA) - The government remains strongly committed to the reform agenda, with efforts intensifying after the local elections, Minister of European Affairs Bekim Sali said Friday evening in an interview with Telma TV, adding that all steps under the reform agenda are expected to be completed by June.

“We are advancing the reform agenda with greater momentum. We have more frequent coordination at the government level and stronger interinstitutional communication to fulfil the tasks related to the reform agenda. I expect the report in June to be more positive,” Sali said.

He noted that advancing the reform agenda also involves amending laws already agreed upon under it.

“By January 15 we had completed and submitted 27 of the 41 steps in the reform agenda. Within the 90-day deadline, by the end of March or possibly April 15, we expect the first feedback to see whether the steps are satisfactory or whether additional remarks will require further amendments,” Sali said.

He also referred to information about different forms and possibilities for EU membership.

As he noted, the ways of becoming a full member of the European Union are changing due to certain policies pursued by the bloc’s member states.

“We are ready to be part of the European Union in any form and then, over time, we will adapt, while they will also accept us so that cooperation and support within the EU can grow. We have not interrupted communication and remain open to all options. Of course, we are intensively working on what we need to accomplish, but if there is an option, we are willing to be part of it,” Sali noted.

He said that a different approach to EU accession could emerge in 2027, stressing that the final decision lies with the EU member states.
