Skopje, 12 December 2025 (MIA) - The system of street cameras dubbed "Safe City", which records traffic misdemeanors and is currently being trialed, will become fully operational on February 1, 2026 in Skopje, Tetovo, and Kumanovo, as well as on corridors VIII and X, the Interior Ministry has told MIA.
Whenever the “Safe City” system registers a traffic violation, the Interior Ministry will send an SMS message and an email to the contact info provided during the registration of the vehicle whose owner committed the violation. The message will contain a link where the driver will be able to download the report for the misdemeanor and a payment order for the fine.
If the offender accepts responsibility and pays the fine within eight days of receiving the report, they will pay half of the fine. After this period expires, the fine can be paid in full within the next eight days, before the procedure for enforced payment begins. In case of timely payment, the expenses for the entire procedure are also covered.
Foreign nationals, as well as citizens who are leaving the country and could avoid payment, are required to pay the fine immediately, and no later than eight days after receiving the report. If the fine is not paid, the Interior Ministry will forward it to the relevant body for enforced payment. For violations where, in addition to the fine, a driving ban is also required, and the fine is paid on time, the Ministry will submit a court request to initiate misdemeanor proceedings.
Fines can be paid online using the link received with the report.
The “Safe City” system registered 65.000 traffic misdemeanors within just the first 12 hours of the trial period which began on December 1.
