Rutte at Ilinden army barracks: Stay safe and keep us safe

Skopje, 3 March 2026 (MIA) - In recent days, we have seen how important it is for all 32 allied countries, including North Macedonia, to unite, work together, and ensure the collective defence of NATO territory, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said Tuesday at the Ilinden army barracks, where he addressed members of the Light Infantry Battalion Group, commending North Macedonia’s role in the Alliance and its contribution to collective security.

In his speech, Mark Rutte emphasized that he was impressed by the country’s engagement as a NATO member since 2020, underlining its contribution in land forces, its support for Ukraine, and its commitment to the defence of every part of the Alliance’s territory.

“I am truly honored to be here. I wish you all the best. Stay safe and keep us safe,” Rutte said at the end of his address.

Defence Minister Vlado Misajlovski and Chief of the Army General Staff, Major General Sashko Lafchiski presented the NATO Secretary General with the Army’s Grand Plaque.

This is Rutte’s first visit to Skopje as NATO Secretary General. He previously visited the country in November 2021 as Prime Minister of Netherlands.
