Russia again calls for Security Council meeting over nuclear plant
Russia has again called for a meeting of the UN Security Council over the tense situation at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine. Russia requested a Security Council meeting on Tuesday, diplomatic sources told dpa on Monday. Moscow justified the request with the "continued shelling and attacks by Ukrainian forces on the plant." Kiev and Moscow accuse each other of attacking the sprawling complex. Russia invaded Ukraine almost six months ago. Russian units captured the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in early March. With its six reactors and a net output of 5,700 megawatts, Zaporizhzhya is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. In 1986, the worst nuclear accident on European soil occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
