Romania donates radio equipment to Protection and Rescue Directorate

Skopje, 14 March 2023 (MIA) – Radio equipment donated by the Republic of Romania was formally handed over on Tuesday to the Protection and Rescue Directorate as part of a project titled “Increasing the Protection and Rescue Directorate’s Operative Capacity through Donation of Goods and/or Transfer of Expertise in Order to Harmonize National Legislation with EU Emergency Regulations” implemented in 2022 by the Romanian Agency for International Development Cooperation – RoAid.

Bekim Maksuti, director of the Protection and Rescue Directorate, said the donation is worth EUR 12,000 and it includes 20 radio mobile systems that can be installed on the Directorate’s own vehicles in order to increase its field capacities when it comes to handling natural disasters or any other kind of accidents.

“The Republic of Romania is interested in mentoring us on all we need to do for easier harmonization of all regulations regarding civil protection. This donation ranks Romania in the top supporters of North Macedonia and the Protection and Rescue Directorate,” Maksuti said.

Romanian Ambassador to North Macedonia, Monika Aksinte, said the project consisted of exchange of expertise between the Protection and Rescue Directorate and the Romanian General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations in order to share Romanian expertise regarding harmonization with relevant EU regulations.

"This is the second RoAid-funded project for the Protection and Rescue Directorate. I'd like to reiterate that the Romanian government covered the costs for the purchase of a new ATV transport trailer worth EUR 17,650. RoAid also funded another project, valued at EUR 20,000, in the benefit of the Crisis Management Center in North Macedonia which will be closed very soon,” said Aksinte. dk/nn/
