Washington, 24 January 2023 (dpa/MIA) – The US administration is now considering supplying its Abrams battle tanks to Ukraine after previously saying the tanks would not be part of its arms deliveries, the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The Biden administration is leaning toward sending a significant number of Abrams M1 tanks to Ukraine and an announcement of the deliveries could come this week,” officials told the newspaper.

The report added: “The announcement would be part of a broader diplomatic understanding with Germany in which Berlin would agree to send a smaller number of its own Leopard 2 tanks and would also approve the delivery of more of the German-made tanks by Poland and other nations.”

According to the report, President Joe Biden agreed to investigate providing the tanks in a phone call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz last week.
