Religious heads call for coexistence and respect for state and ethnic community symbols
- The heads of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric, the Islamic Religious Community, the Catholic Church, the Evangelical-Methodist Church, and the Jewish Community, have urged all Macedonian citizens not to yield to attempts to disrupt peaceful coexistence in the country.
Skopje, 2 December 2024 (MIA) – The heads of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric, the Islamic Religious Community, the Catholic Church, the Evangelical-Methodist Church, and the Jewish Community, have urged all Macedonian citizens not to yield to attempts to disrupt peaceful coexistence in the country.
The statement, issued following Monday's meeting at the Diocese of Skopje, stresses the importance of continuing to strengthen solidarity and preserving respect for each other, for the state’s symbols and for the symbols of all ethnic communities in the country.
“The meeting of diverse cultures provides an opportunity to elevate the human spirit and boost creativity of the entire society. God has blessed us to live together in one common state. Therefore, we, the heads of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric, the Islamic Religious Community, the Catholic Church, the Evangelical-Methodist Church, and the Jewish Community, urge all Macedonian citizens not to yield to attempts to disrupt coexistence but instead to continue strengthening mutual solidarity and preserving respect of each other, for the state symbols of our homeland, and for the symbols of all ethnic communities in the country,” reads the statement.
The statement was signed by the Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia, H.H. Stefan; Reis-ul-Ulema Shaqir Efendi Fetai; the Bishop of Skopje and the Bishop of Eparchy of Strumica, Kiro Stojanov; Superintendent Marjan Dimov; and Pepo Levi of the Jewish Community.
