Skopje, 4 January 2023 (MIA) – Bloc 1 at REK Bitola has been disconnected Wednesday morning due to broken wires in the plant’s boiler. A probe is underway to determine the anomalies, after which the Bloc will be repaired and restored, according to ESM.

“Bloc 1 underwent overhaul activities last week, but such activities, unfortunately, can’t predict or prevent a situation like this. Each of the three blocs at REK Bitola has a boiler comprising around 700 km worth of pipes, set at different levels, through which steam at temperatures as high as 500 degrees Celsius passes. We move to repair the damages only after conditions are created to do so,” said ESM says.

In addition, due to the energy crisis and the need for constant and intensified production of electricity, “repairs of parts of the blocs are performed when the opportunity arises, without jeopardizing the plants’ stability,” according to ESM. dk/nn/
