"On Sunday 10 September, Storm Daniel hit north-eastern Libya, causing strong winds and sudden heavy rainfall, destroying several cities on the Mediterranean coast. Infrastructure has been severely damaged, as well as the road and telecommunications network. One of the worst affected areas is the city of Derna, where the death toll passed 5,000. The flood caused by the strong storm destroyed damns, causing flash floods which destroyed a fourth of the city, carrying away buildings along with inhabitants, the streets are covered in rubble, mud and debris. Around 10,000 people are presumed missing," the Red Cross said. ssh/nn/
