Ready for early elections if majority decides they should be held, says ZNAM leader

Skopje, 4 November 2024 (MIA) - ZNAM is a new political entity and for us, it is healthy to participate in elections, so we can assess where we stand. In any case, we are ready for elections if the majority decides they should be held, said the leader of the ZNAM movement and current Kumanovo Mayor, Maksim Dimitrievski, on Monday evening.

“If early general elections are held, alongside the local elections, I am more than certain that the number of MPs that SDSM currently has in Parliament will drop drastically, which is good for the country,” Dimitrievski told TV Alfa.

On whether the citizens are satisfied with the current Government, Dimitrievski said they will express their opinion at the next elections.

“It is a fact that this Government is trying to reverse the negative trends in the country, while also not trampling the Macedonian national and state interests, and not deviating a single millimeter from this. For as long as this is the case, ZNAM will be an integral part of this Government’s majority and will guarantee that the majority isn’t blackmailed by the minority as was the case in the past,” Dimitrievski said.

Asked to comment on DUI’s talk of a “destabilization”, Dimitrievski called on DUI leader Ali Ahmeti to “change his narrative and realize that it’s 2024 and not 2001, and no one can destabilize Macedonia”.

“Everyone has a right to protest in a democratic manner. In case someone tries to destabilize the country, it will act. Macedonia has laws, it has a Constitution, it has institutions, and they will act to protect the constitutional order. The will of the majority is expressed through 61 MPs in Parliament, which we have, and it is our duty to respect the will of the majority,” he said.
