Skopje, 13 September 2024 (MIA) – Bulgaria has always been open to dialogue with the Republic of North Macedonia, and I expect this dialogue to contribute to our cultural rapprochement as well as to boost economic cooperation. We expect North Macedonia to fulfil all its obligations, both to us and to the European Union, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said Friday ahead of his meeting with North Macedonia's President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria.
According to Radev, the Government of North Macedonia has not yet left the pre-election rhetoric.
"The Government of North Macedonia has not yet left the pre-election rhetoric. It is necessary to return to reality. Our relations will depend on the agreements reached," Radev stated.
He noted that the commitment of North Macedonia’s leadership regarding Corridor 8 will be a clear indicator of North Macedonia’s real European ambitions and for greater connectivity in the region.
"I expect that President Siljanovska-Davkova’s expressed wish for dialogue and understanding will remain a consistent policy of the Government of North Macedonia. We will strictly adhere to the protocol. It is also time for my official visit to the Republic of North Macedonia," Radev noted.
In response to a question about whether such an invitation has already been extended, Radev answered that this matter will be discussed with the President of North Macedonia.
