Skopje, 8 May 2024 (MIA) - According to information obtained from public prosecutor’s offices across the country, today's Election Day has generally proceeded peacefully and without major disruptions, said Xhelal Bajrami, head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s temporary committee tasked with monitoring possible election-related irregularities.
"Since the beginning of voting this morning," he said, "no incidents or irregularities with elements of criminal offenses have been reported to public prosecutors or to the special email address izbori@jorm.mk "
He pointed out irregularities from yesterday, for which the Veles Basic Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated a case against two individuals based on an Interior Ministry’s report.
"During a search operation, a larger cache of weapons was discovered at one site, while another individual was found in possession of a single firearm. Veles Basic Court has already issued a detention measure, while for the other individual, the procedure will be regular, and allegations of possible bribery during elections will be further investigated by the Public Prosecutor's Office," Bajrami said.
He pointed out that there have been reports of suspicions of voter bribery in Ohrid and Kriva Palanka; however, he stated that no criminal charges have been filed with the relevant authorities for these incidents so far.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office’s temporary committee continues to monitor the voting process and the email address remains open for potential reports of suspected criminal activity that may disrupt the electoral process.
