Public prosecutors elect new head of prosecution office for organized crime and corruption
Skopje, 7 November 2022 (MIA) - Public prosecutors from all over the country on Monday elected Islam Abazi as the new head of the prosecutor's office for organized crime and corruption. Abazi got 66 votes, followed by Ermon Neziri, 64 votes, Desa Paunovska, 10 votes, and Vilma Ruskovska, 14 votes. According to the law, Islam Abazi should take office as head of the public prosecutor's office for organized crime in seven days' time. According to the law on public prosecution, a total of 163 public prosecutors in the country are eligible to vote for a new head. They voted during working hours in polling stations in five prosecutor's offices, including the main office in Skopje. Today's election of a new head of the public prosecutor's office for organized crime was the first one after the law on public prosecutors was amended. They are elected by the Council of Public Prosecutors following a vote by all public prosecutors in the country. The Council of Public Prosecutors has seven days to hold a session to name the new chief public prosecutor tasked with prosecuting crime, who has a four-year term.
