Protest against French proposal in front of Government

Protest against French proposal in front of Government
Skopje, 3 July 2022 (MIA) – A protest under slogan “Ultimatum – No Thank You” is taking place in front of the Government building on Sunday evening. Protesters reject the French proposal on lifting the Bulgarian veto and open North Macedonia’s EU accession negotiations. According to them, denial of the right to self-determination and conditioning the country’s European integration by accepting unilateral deletion of the cultural and historic identity and unilateral non-recognition of the language is neither part of the EU membership criteria nor a rule among member-states. The protest is supported by political parties and civil society organizations who believe that the proposal is bad for the Macedonian people and the Macedonian national interests. Largest opposition party VMRO-DPMNE has supported the protest, with leader Hristijan Mickoski calling on citizens to join and defend European values, as well as save the EU accession process.
