Prosecutor's office to look into media reports over motorways' construction

Skopje, 28 March 2023 (MIA) - The Public Prosecutor's Office for organized crime and corruption will look into media reports related to the construction of motorways along Corridors 8 and 10d, followed by a decision by a competent public prosecutor depending on the outcome.

The State Commission for Prevention of Corruption has said it would look into the media reports regarding the companies involved in the IRD consortium that has been selected as the supervisor of the motorway construction, with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski also urging the Public Prosecutor's Office to investigate all procedures.

"All public information and data over the election of the contractor and supervisor are available at the Public Procurement Bureau. I again urge the PPO and the anti-corruption commission to carry out the procedure related to all available information, whereas all Government decisions and accompanying materials will be delivered to them," PM Kovachevski told a Q&A session in Parliament on Tuesday.

VMRO-DPMNE MP Mile Lefkov asked PM Kovachevski over the supervision service worth EUR 22 million that has been entrusted to a company without any experience in the field "and one that received a supervision license overnight".

"The design and construction of the motorways is worth EUR 1.3 billion, of which only 1.69 percent i.e. EUR 22.3 million are allocated for supervision, which is the lowest rate for supervision in any motorway construction project in the country to date," said Kovachevski.
