Prosecutor’s Office: Ongoing investigation into causes and circumstances of road accident involving migrants
Skopje, 11 August 2022 (MIA) - According to instructions of a public prosecutor, teams of the Ministry of Interior carried out an on-site inspection, investigation is underway to determine the causes of the accident and other circumstances of the event, the Public Prosecutor’s Office told MIA on Thursday, after yesterday’s road accident in which migrants were injured.
The Ministry of Interior said earlier a Scania truck with Skopje licence plates was reported at the Valandovo police station on Wednesday at 6:20 pm to have skidded off the road at the M1 highway near the junction for Marvinci village.
The driver fled, and 49 migrants were found at the scene of the accident, who said they were from Syria. One migrant suffered severe injuries, while 34 had minor injuries, according to the medical centers in Gevgelija and Strumica.
The rest of the migrants were transported to the Vinojug transit center in Gevgelija. A public prosecutor from the Veles Prosecutor’s Office was informed about the accident, and a team from the Valandovo police station carried out on-site inspection.
