Prosecutors ask Criminal Court to extend detention for murder suspects

Skopje, 5 December 2023 (MIA) — The four suspects for the murder of Vanja Gjorchevska were brought to the Skopje Criminal Court on Tuesday evening before a judge who will rule on the prosecution's proposal to further extend their detention.

The four were brought to the court from Skopje's Shutka Prison, where Velibor Manev, Vlatko Keshishov and Bore Videvski were detained on suspicions in connection with the murders of Vanja Gjorchevska, who was found dead near Skopje on Dec. 3 after she was reported missing on Nov. 27, and of Panche Zhezhovski, who was found dead near Veles on Dec. 3 after he was reported missing on Nov. 24.

Vanja Gjorchevska's father, Aleksandar Gjorchevski, was detained on suspicion of sharing information related to his daughter's whereabouts with the other suspects.

The prime suspect, Ljupcho Palevski, is on the run. On Monday, the Ministry of Interior issued an international arrest warrant for him and the Skopje Criminal Court ordered an investigation into suspicions that he had organized and perpetrated the murders of Vanja Gjorchevska and Panche Zhezhovski.

Earlier on Tuesday, the prosecutors asked the Criminal Court to also order 48 hours in detention for a 46-year-old man from Skopje on suspicion of assisting Palevski flee to Turkey via Bulgaria and Serbia. mr/
