Proposal includes red lines defined in Parliament resolution: PM
Skopje, 3 July 2022 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Sunday the French proposal does not question the Macedonian language, the Macedonian identity and the Macedonian nation. “This is a multilateral document that the French EU Presidency officially sent to the Republic of North Macedonia. This document includes our red lines defined in the resolution adopted by the Parliament,” PM Kovachevski told reporters after a meeting with VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski. On the timeframe of the constitutional revision, he said that everyone should be up to the task and support it when the time came. “Our Constitution envisages that citizens self-declaring differently than the Macedonian people can be included. This is what the Montenegrins have asked, the Bulgarians and the Croats. Others will maybe ask for this as well, such as Balkan Egyptians for example. It is our responsibility to support their incorporation in the Constitution Preamble because we are a model in Europe in this regard. That is why I believe all 120 MPs should give their support,” said Kovachevski. According to him, the Government’s positions would be built based on the opinions by consulted parties. “After we finish the consultative process, these opinions will be submitted to the Government and based on the elaborations, the executive will make the decision and forward it to the EU,” noted Kovachevski.
