Skopje, 23 January 2024 (MIA) - Climate change can be tackled only through coordinated policies, and this is a feature of this Government. We cooperate with various sectors and jointly determine objectives, primarily in reducing pollution and better economic development, said Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Kaja Shukova on Tuesday.
Minister Shukova told a panel within conference "Year of European Opportunities" that North Macedonia has a long-term Climate Change Strategy with clearly defined goals and measures, noting the importance of investing in sectors that have an impact on climate.
"Lack of investments will lead to more costs. Although investments reach hundreds of millions of euros, they will create green jobs. According to estimates, if the Strategy and the new law on climate, which is set to be adopted soon, are seriously implemented, we will generate up to 10,000 green jobs. This is a challenge for EU members but for us as well," said Shukova.
