Project on early detection of forest fires launched in Southeastern region
Strumica, 29 July 2022 (MIA) - The Development Center of the Southeastern Planning Region will work on early detection of wildfires and their movement as a way of disaster prevention, it was revealed Friday at a news conference.
North Macedonia, Greece and several institutions and organizations in the country will implement the project.
The project aims at efficient detection and management of forest fires in a cross border area by using IC tools, said project coordinator Zhulieta Grkova.
ICT equipment will be installed in the mountains Belasica and Kozhuf for timely detection of fires before they start spreading, she said.
Two smaller vehicles for the fire brigades in Strumica and Gevgelija will be procured in addition to the equipment.
The project, estimated at EUR 1.4 million, will be implemented until October 2023 as part of the IPA program for cross border cooperation between North Macedonia and Greece.
