Prilep prosecutor opens investigation into man for endangering safety of top prosecutors, diplomats
Skopje, 2 February 2022 (MIA) – The Prilep Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered an investigation into a man from Bitola, 56, who has been suspected of endangering people under international protection and threatening personal safety according to North Macedonia’s Criminal Code.
The Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday that the man in December 2021 in a handwritten letter in English, addressed and sent to the US Embassy in Skopje, had threatened to kill American diplomats, including US Deputy Assistant Secretary Gabriel Escobar
The suspect later that same month and in January 2022 also sent death threats to the chief prosecutor of the prosecutor’s office for organized crime and corruption, Vilma Ruskovska, and the Chief Public Prosecutor of North Macedonia, Ljubomir Joveski.
A prosecutor has proposed that the man should be ordered detention saying he is considered flight risk and could repeat the crime.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry said that the 56-year-old man was arrested for sending death threats to the top prosecutors and to a foreign embassy in Skopje.
