Prespa Agreement is a living process, it’s important whether there’s political will, says Osmani after meeting with Dendias
Skopje, 31 August 2021 (MIA) – The issue of the implementation of the Prespa Agreement is a living process, in which it is important whether there’s political will. What we, the two ministers, agreed today is that we strongly believe in this agreement, we strongly believe in the perspective of our friendship, of our strategic partnership. We strongly believe in the economic potentials, in the cooperation of all possible sectors,  North Macedonia’s Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said after Tuesday’s meeting with his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias, who’s paying an official visit to the country. Regarding the implementation of the Prespa Agreement by the Greek side, the memoranda and the joint commission for educational issues, Osmani said the Prespa Agreement is an agreement that is the basis of the bilateral relations, the new regional architecture, and it is an irreversible process. According to Osmani, that is in the interest of our country and guarantees the perspective of the country, of the bilateral relations, and no one will allow the Prespa Agreement to be threatened. “I also raised at the meeting the questions over the ratification of certain agreements and memoranda in the Greek Parliament, as well as the issue over the traffic signs in Greece. We discussed the technical reasons for non-fulfillment of those issues in the Greek Parliament and agreed on how it will be done in the coming period,” said Osmani. The Minister pointed out that the Greek side has fulfilled the most important obligations in terms of the Prespa Agreement, which is support for North Macedonia's NATO membership and support for the start of EU negotiations. “These were the two essential obligations for Greece regarding the Prespa Agreement. The issues of the memoranda are issues of sectorial cooperation, issues of achieving the strategic partnership, it is a living matter, there are many agreements that need to be signed, for example the Double Taxation Agreement with us,” Osmani said. The Minister noted that the implementation of the Prespa Agreement is intensively monitored, the obligations arising from the building of the strategic partnership in the sectorial cooperation, as well as the obligations arising from Article 8 of the agreement, which is the implementation of the name change. According to Osmani, such monitoring takes place on a weekly basis through an Action Plan in which the specific obligations of both parties are implemented. FM Osmani stressed that after this meeting, relations with Greece will be even stronger. He noted that the talks also tackled rapid cross-border railway transport, as well as the opening of the new Markova Noga border crossing.
