Skopje, 17 Spetember 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova received Tuesday the credentials of newly appointed Spanish Ambassador Rafael Soriano Ortiz. 

At the handover ceremony of the credentials, Siljanovska Davkova said that the two friendly countries are linked by 30 years of rich diplomatic relations, traditional and sincere friendship, based on diverse cooperation, mutual respect and open access, pointing out that such joint commitment represents another bridge in building stronger friendly relations between the two countries, the President's Office said in a press release. 

"I'd like to use this opportunity to express my respect for the support that Spain has given to our European integration process so far. We are strongly committed to implementing domestic reforms with fresh energy. Spain's support is of particular importance in achieving the reform goals. I expect, in the coming period, the support to continue strongly and, in that sense, I hope that the European Union will also show a clearer commitment to the enlargement," President Siljanovska Davkova pointed out, adding that Spain is an important partner and NATO ally, a country that stands for the same goals as our country.

Siljanovska Davkova expressed confidence that a successful period is ahead for the two countries, with significant opportunities to strengthen cooperation, both bilaterally and internationally.

Ambassador Rafael Soriano Ortiz stressed that in terms of the country's accession aspirations, Spain is a firm defender of the enlargement process.

"A decisive phase of this process is ahead of us, which we must take advantage of. My country stands for a European policy that has the enlargement of the European family as an essential component with the aim of creating a common space of rules and values ​​that will ensure the well-being of our citizens, as well as our successful participation in the challenges of globalization," said Ambassador Soriano Ortiz. 

The Spanish Ambassador noted that education and cultural cooperation will be among the priorities, pointing to the promotion of university exchange, joint research and the study of the Spanish language as primary goals, as well as the creation of cultural spaces for exchange and shared reflection, which will contribute to better mutual knowledge.
