President Siljanovska Davkova meets Montenegrin PM Spajić

Podgorica, 29 November 2024 (MIA) – President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, during her official visit to Montenegro, met Friday in Podgorica with Montenegrin Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić. They exchanged views on bilateral relations between the two countries, European integration aspirations, and developments in the region.

As reported by MIA’s special correspondent from Podgorica, President Siljanovska Davkova voiced satisfaction with the progress in relations and cooperation. She highlighted the traditionally strong friendship, shared views on regional and international cooperation, and common goals of peace, stability, and EU membership.

Siljanovska Davkova underscored her expectation that Macedonia’s progress in EU integration would be evaluated fairly, based on the Copenhagen criteria. She also expressed hope for sharing Montenegro's expertise and experience in the EU negotiation process.

“She stated that one of her top priorities is regional cooperation, emphasizing that by fostering mutual respect and encouraging unity within the region, we can accelerate the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU. In this context, the interlocutors proposed specific measures: re-establishing a direct airline route, establishing cultural centers in both countries, and convening an intergovernmental meeting as soon as possible. The Prime Minister highlighted Montenegro’s readiness to share its EU integration experience with Macedonian institutions,” Siljanovska Davkova’s Office said.

They agreed on the need for rapid and significant progress in economic cooperation to complement the strong political ties between the two countries.
