President Siljanovska Davkova meets Italian Ambassador Silvestri

Skopje, 14 May 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met Tuesday with Italian Ambassador Andrea Silvestri who congratulated her and wished her success in the post.

President Siljanovska Davkova said that both countries have traditionally friendly relations and expressed strong commitment for further developing the political dialogue and intensify the overall bilateral ties with Italy by strengthening existing and finding new opportunities for cooperation, the President’s Office said in a press release.

Interlocutors exchanged views on the course and next steps regarding the country's European integration process, whereby the President stressed that she will advocate for a broad social consensus for the alignment of Macedonian legislation with the EU acquis, in order to consistently adopt reform processes and improve the credibility of EU's enlargement policy.

President Siljanovska Davkova expressed gratitude for Italy's role and approach in supporting the entire region's integration process, highlighting Rome's positive attitude in overcoming disputes with its own neighbors in the admission of new members to the Union, the press release reads.

She also expressed hope that Italy will continue to support the country in the merit-based process of fulfilling European criteria in order to accelerate the country's EU integration process, which is of common interest for the wider region. ssh/ik/
