President Siljanovska Davkova meets CoE Secretary General Berset
- The President of the country, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE), Alain Berset, during her participation in the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Skopje, 28 September 2024 (MIA) - The President of the country, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE), Alain Berset, during her participation in the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to Siljanovska Davkova's Office, the meeting involved an exchange of views on the objectives and priorities related to the democratization of Macedonian society, human rights, and the rule of law. Reaffirming her commitment to further constructive cooperation with the Council of Europe, President Siljanovska Davkova expressed satisfaction with the continued support for our full alignment with European standards and values.
“President Siljanovska Davkova highlighted the significance of the European Union's credible engagement in the integration of Western Balkan countries, particularly when the progress of individual candidates is clearly merited. She also pointed out the essential need for adherence to the commitments made by member states, which includes the correct execution of judgments from the Strasbourg Court,” reads the press release.
Siljanovska Davkova and Berset referred to the current security situation in Europe, particularly focusing on the war in Ukraine, and highlighted the necessity for commitment and a joint approach to tackle present and future challenges, including the effects of new technologies and climate change on human resources.
At the meeting, President Siljanovska Davkova offered her congratulations to Alain Berset, the newly elected Secretary General of the Council of Europe, wishing him success in fulfilling his important mission and expressing hope for continued fruitful cooperation with Macedonian institutions.
