Skopje, 11 November 2024 (MIA) – President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova attended the official opening of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, her office said Monday.

Mukhtar Babayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan and COP29 Chairman, Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and COP28 Chairman, UAE Minister for Industries and Advanced Technologies, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, delivered opening remarks at the summit, held under the motto “In Solidarity for a Greener World”.

COP29 will focus on way to provide finances deemed necessary to help developing countries in order to adapt to climate change and to implement measures needed to meet climate goals. 

On Tuesday, President Siljanovska Davkova will address the first plenary session of heads of state and government, her office said.
