Skopje, 30 July 2022 (MIA) – After an 18-year hiatus, President Stevo Pendarovski will on August 2-Republic Day head a state-church delegation to monastery St.Prohor Pchinski, the site of the first session of the Anti-fascist Assembly for the National Liberation of Macedonia (ASNOM), held on 2 August 1944. President Pendarovski spoke over the phone with Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic and Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) Pontiff, Patriarch Porfirij, on the occasion, his Office said in a press release. Pendarovski and Vucic agreed that bilateral ties are excellent and the visit is a positive impulse in the opening of new chapters in mutual relations. Pendarovski thanked Porfirij for the decision to grant the visit to the monastery, which follows the recent SOC decision to accept the autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric (MOC-OA). The delegation from North Macedonia will also include members of the Parliament and Government, as well as MOC-OA representatives, reads the press release.
